Jefferson County crash
Charges are pending against a Cocke County man in connection with an early morning crash on Interstate 40 in Jefferson County. Troopers said Keith Bailey, 45, Newport was westbound at 1:34 am near the 422 mile marker when his 2007 GMC Yukon went out of control. The Bailey auto struck another westbound vehicle, a 2012 Volvo, operated by Angel Roman, 55, Kissimmee, Florida. Following the initial collision, the Bailey vehicle continued west striking a guardrail in the median. The driver then overcorrected came back onto I-40 and rolled several times ejecting both occupants who were not restrained. The passenger in the Yukon, Dawn Bailey, 43, Newport, was flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, and the driver was transported by Jefferson County EMS. Roman who was wearing a seatbelt was uninjured. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, and charges are pending against Bailey.
