Moore indicted federally
A Cocke County man who allegedly threatened former Cocke County Chief Deputy and Detective Robert Caldwell, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. David Moore, 61, Bassinger Road, Newport faces federal charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was arrested August 16 on state charges of Stalking and Possession Of A Weapon By A Convicted Felon, after allegedly threatening the retired Caldwell. On Wednesday, former Chief Detective Robert Caldwell reported that a man had approached him at a convenience store and made death threats to him. He allegedly threated the lawman and then laid a wreath of flowers and a threatening letter near the end of Caldwell's driveway in the Point Pleasant community. Investigators had placed cameras at the end of the Caldwell driveway, and while servicing the cameras, Moore drove by During a subsequent search of the auto, a .22 caliber handgun was recovered, fully loaded with six bullets. As a result, a federal detainer was placed on Moore. Caldwell had been involved in investigations which led to Moore being convicted of Second Degree murder about 25 years ago, and the investigtor also had prosecuted Moore on an arson charge in the past.
