President Trump to visit Johnson City
President Donald J. Trump is scheduled to campaign next Monday at Freedom Hall in Johnson City for Republican US Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn. The rally is scheduled for 7 pm. A news release says Trump is expected to discuss the latest economic news and the importance of protecting and expanding the Republican majorities in Congress. Washington County Republican Party Chairman Turney Williams said he expects President Trump's visit to bolster support for Blackburn ahead of a November Senate election that polls show is still too close to call. "Having a high turnout in East Tennessee is very important for her to win Tennessee as a whole," Williams said. The county's Democratic Party Chairman Kate Craig said Former Democrat Governor Phil Bredesen, is disrupting traditional party lines in Northeast Tennessee, gaining bipartisan support in a region that historically Republicans haven't had to worry about winning. "They have a reason to be concerned if they aren't turning out numbers they should be in what is considered their base," she said.
