East Broadway update
Clint Hammonds with Newport Utilities(NU) says the project to upgrade water and wastewater piping on East Broadway in Newport was curtailed for the weekend so that the Newport Street harvest in downtown would not be effected. The festival with crafts, music and food is continuing today. According to the project manager, the last tie-in was made Thursday evening in the downtown area. NU placed cold mix asphalt in front of Food City on Friday and the intersections where tie ins were made last week. Other than some concrete sidewalk repair, all water and wastewater work has now be completed in the downtown area. "This week, we will return to work on the section in front of Food City and continue to move eastward. Thank you to all of the NU crew members who have sacrificed many hours and for continued patience as we are nearing the end of this project," Hammonds added.
