White cutting Newport authorities are investigating a Saturday incident in which a Barnardsville, North Carolina man was cut with a knife. Newport Patrol Officer William Garber said he responded to the McDonalds restaurant just after 8 pm on Saturday where he found 31-year-old Erik White. The injured man said he was in the men's restroom and as he left he felt something tug at his uniform. Soon thereafter, White was told by another customer that he was bleeding. Upon investigation, officers located an Exacto knife blade "which had been heated and then pressed into the baby changing table, allowing the blade to stick out about an inch," Officer Garber said. The injured White was escorted to the Newport Medical Center where sutures were required to close the wound. Investigators have not identified the subject who placed the knife blade in the restroom.
