Black Mountain Road crash
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released details regarding a single vehicle crash on Black Mountain Road in Cocke County last Friday. The 6:38 pm incident involved a 1994 Ford Ranger operated by Tommy Barnes, 45, of Cosby. Barnes was traveling on the roadway when his truck left the right side and struck a large boulder, causing the right front wheel to break off. When the vehicle pulled to the left it traveled down a steep ravine. Personnel with the Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire Department assisted First Call EMS to retrieve Barnes and his passenger, Ayden C. Stewart, 11, who was riding on the front right seat. Trooper said both occupants who were not wearing seatbelts were taken to the Newport Medical Center for treatment. Barnes was charged with Driving an Unregistered Vehicle as well as Seatbelt and Child Restraint violations.
