National Diabetes Awareness Month
With November being National Diabetes Awareness Month and Americans collectively spending nearly $237 billion every year on obesity-related health costs, the personal-finance website WalletHub has released its report on 2018's Fattest States in America. And Tennessee does not rank well..... it ranks as the fifth fattest state in the country. To determine which states contribute the most to America’s overweight and obesity problem, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics. They range from the share of overweight and obese population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs. Tennessee ranks 24th in it's percentage of obese Adults, and 4th nationwide in the percentage of overweight children. The Volunteer state also ranks third in the percentage of adults with high cholesterol, 6th in the percentage of Adults with Type 2 Diabetes and 7th in the percentage of Adults with Hypertension. Tennessee also ranks 28th in the Obesity-Related death rate.
