Cocke County home destroyed by fire
Cocke County firefighters are investigating the cause of a Tuesday evening fire which destroyed a residence on Cactus Way, Newport. Fire Chief Keith Large said personnel were dispatched to the home at 8:39 pm, finding it engulfed in flames. They were told owner Darrell Ricker was in the process of selling the home to Dedra Manning, and firefighters have not determined if the residence was occupied at the time of the blaze. "We believe the fire started in the middle of the home, and it likely had been burning for some time before it was discovered," the chief said. The destroyed brick home and contents were valued at $180,000.
