Inmates Warren and Mantooth face charges
Two inmates in the Cocke County jail face charges in connection with recent events. Glenn Anthony Mantooth, 28, River Street, Newport is charged with assault on a warrant obtained by Cpl. Jessica Butler. The officer says she observed Mantooth assaulting fellow inmate, Ernest Tyler Miller. Inmate Miller sustained cuts and bruises to his face and left eye. Because Miller offered no resistance and did not fight back, he is not charged in the altercation. Inmate Samuel William Warren, 31, Clevenger Cut-Off Road, Newport was served with several warrants by Deputy Lt. Michael Whitmer. The subject allegedly presented himself as his brother when he appeared in Cocke County Sessions Court. And when he was being prepared for release from the jail, he again presented himself as his brother who also is incarcerated. "He presented himself as his brother, Allen Warren, forged his brother's signature on the release documents and was almost released. ; a criminal attempt to escape the facility under a false identity," said Lt. Whitmer. Samuel Warren now faces charges of Aggravated Perjury, Attempted Criminal Impersonation, Forgery and Criminal Impersonation.
