Byrd charged in Sunday stabbing
A Cocke County man is in custody facing charges in a Sunday morning stabbing incident in his home. Deputy Daniel Smith identified the suspect as William Alex Byrd, 26, McGaha Chapel Road, Cosby. Deputy Smith said officers were notified at 4:52 am that Byrd was stabbing and cutting other residents of the home with a knife. Upon arrival on the scene officers found the suspect walking toward the road from the residence, and he was taken into custody. Inside the home, officers found Tucker Byrd, 53, with multiple stab wounds to his chest and shoulder area. Vickie Byrd, 50 also had injuries. The knife used in the attack was found under the injured male. Both were taken to the Newport Medical Center by First EMS for treatment and later Tucker Byrd was flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment. He later was released. Alex Byrd is charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Criminal Attempt.
