Inmates charged with assault
A total of five inmates in the Cocke County Jail face assault charges in connection with two recent incidents in the facility. Deputy Wess Keys said Glenn Mantooth, 29, River Street, Newport, Forest Beason,25, Edwina Bridgeport Road, Newport, and Devyn Childs, 26. Ramblin Road, Newport, were observed on camera pulling fellow inmate Mark Brown from his bunk by his legs. Brown was pushed to an area off-surveillance camera where he was assaulted Deputy Keys said a medical evaluation suggested Brown sustained a fractured nose in the Thursday incident. Two other inmates are charged in the November 27 assault of Brown. Deputy Keys says Jason Perkey, 36, Valley Walk Way, Cosby and Keith Levering, 27, Woodson Road, Newport, were observed on surveillance assaulting Brown, with Levering kicking him on the neck and then both Levering and Perkey punched Brown on the face and torso.
