Shots fired at Hamblen officer
A suspect is in custody following a car chase on Thursday which began in Knox County. In Hamblen County a sheriff's deputy was shot at but was not injured. K9 deputies captured the fleeing suspect. Deputies chased the subject through Jefferson and Hamblen counties. When he was blocked in, the suspect jumped from the vehicle which bore Virginia tags, and carjacked a Ford Ranger owned by a handicapped Dandridge resident. Hamblen deputies were fired at by the suspect i who had taken the driver hostage . During the pursuit, one deputy's vehicle was hit by a bullet fired fby the suspect, according to HCSO. Eventually, the suspect fled the pickup near Fern Wood Church Road where a K-9 Unit was dispatched to bring the suspect into custody. He had reportedlym tried to kick in the doors of two homes before being captured. The officer driving the vehicle struck by the bullet was not injured. .
