Friday evening hit and run in Cocke County
A Cocke County man was jailed Friday evening after he struck another auto in the rear and then fled the scene. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the crash occurred on Highway 25E at the Lehigh Drive intersection just before 6 pm. Officers said Kristina Justice, 22, Morristown was traveling on Highway 25E when she slowed to allow a vehicle in front of her to turn onto Lehigh Drive. As she slowed, her 2012 Nissan was struck in the rear by Thomas Colton, 56, of Newport. Colton operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado sped from the scene onto Lehigh Drive, but he was found a short time later by Cocke County deputies. He was jailed on charges of DUI, failure to exercise due care, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance and following too closely. There were no injuries in the crash.
