Williams arrest
Newport authorities jailed a Newport man Saturday morning following a lengthy pursuit through the city. Officers had been asked to be on the lookout for a tan Honda which reportedly had been involved in a domestic incident in the county. A short time later, Patrol Officer Brandon Cassidy spotted the auto on East Broadway and attempted a traffic stop. But the vehicle, operated by Rodney Williams, 37, Sixth Street, Newport, refused t6o stop and nearly struck a cruiser operated by Patrol Officer William Garber. The pursuit continued onto Woodlawn Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Filbert Street, through a lawn on Sixth Street and onto Evergreen Street before coming to a stop. Then Williams fled on foot for a short distance before he was captured. He was in possession of open containers of alcohol and also admitted to smoking marijuana prior to the pursuit. Williams initially refused to cooperate with the arrest but did so after being tased. Now he faces charges of his second offense DUI, violation of the implied consent law, resisting arrest, evading arrest, felony reckless endangerment with a vehicle, failure to exercise due care, driving on a revoked license, running a stop sign and open container violations.
