Mashburn arrest
Cocke County authorities Thursday morning arrested a South Carolina man who allegedly planned to rob the driver and then steal his tractor-trailer rig off Zanzibar Road. Deputy Daniel Smith identified the subject who was found under the truck, as Terry Lee Mashburn, 56, Jackson, South Carolina. When he was ordered from under the rig, Mashburn attempted to run away but was taken into custody nearby. Officer Smith said the suspect had a roll of coins in his pocket to be used to weigh his punches, in addition, he had more than $20,000 in cash hidden under his shirt. As Mashburn was being placed into the patrol car he fought with officers and had to be forced into the cruiser. The occupant of the parked truck, William Smith, Orangeburg, SC, told officers that Mashburn pried on his door at 3 am and then attempted to break out a window of the cab. He then threatened Smith and attempted to enter the cab. The subject caused damage to several areas of the rig including damage to a new $10,000 paint job, Officer Smith said. Mashburn was jailed on charges of robbery, assault, vandalism over $500, criminal attempt and resisting arrest.
