East Broadway is open to traffic
Newport Utilities(NU) Waterworks Manager Clint Hammonds has issued a memo saying that East Broadway is now fully open to traffic. Paving was completed Tuesday evening . He says all that remains are a few water service connections which will be done off the road between Filbert and Belton, however all the main pipes and road excavations are complete. I want to say a HUGE thank you to all the employees at NU who sacrificed many evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays to accomplish this task. Also thank you to city personnel, emergency responders, business owners, and the motoring public for patience and support during this time. While it may have been inconvenient during the process, it has allowed replacement of now nearly 108 year old infrastructure, vastly improved fire flow, and a better road and infrastructure for future downtown revitalization and growth. Hammonds reminds the motoring public that the current road condition is not intended to be left as it is permanently. While utility work may be complete, TDOT has promised to resurface the roadway in the Spring.
