Bingham jailed on assault charges
Cocke County authorities have charged a Blountville, TN man in connection with a Thursday hammer attack of another man in Cocke County. Matthew Bingham, 24, was found standing on North Highway 340 at 1:30 pm, and he told Deputy Tony Bailey he had been in a fight. Later the officer found Thomas Frazier, 26 also of Blountville, on Point View Road. Frazier said he and Bingham were headed to Dandridge. He said the two argued and then Bingham hit him on the head with a hammer and his fist. Bingham also allegedly broke a window from the Frazier vehicle and threatened to kill Frazier. Deputy Bailey said Frazier sustained cuts to his head from the hammer and the fist of Bingham, and was treated at the Newport Medical Center. As a result, Bingham was jailed on aggravated assault charges.
