Newport Utilities water project
Newport Utilities(NU) Water Department crews will begin a construction project in the Cosby area the first week of March. Water crews will replace existing 6" cast iron pipe waterlines with 12" ductile iron pipe to update the system and meet the growing demand for water. The new pipe will also reduce the frequent water leaks in the area. A boring crew has already begun installing pipe underneath roadways and creek beds, according to Sharon R. Kyser, Marketing & Public Relations Manager. The current work is not expected to impact traffic flow. NU's Water Construction crew will begin work at the Jones Cove and Cosby Highway intersection around March 1. Construction will progress southward toward Hooper Highway, however lane closures are not expected at this time. Kyser said NU is requesting the public's cooperation in maintaining a safe and productive work zone. "Please be mindful of workers along the highways, maintain proper speed and be alert to any change in traffic patterns," she said.
