Human remains found in Jefferson County
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey on Tuesday reported that his agency was contacted at 4:30 pm on Sunday, after a suspicious bag was found on the shoreline of Douglas Lake near Lake Ridge Drive in Dandridge. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the unidentified complainant who stated that while walking on his property he noticed a suspicious bag next to the lake shore. Upon further investigation, deputies observed that the bag contained human remains. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Attorney General’s Office are investigating. The body was transported to the Forensics Center in Knoxville for further examination. Sheriff Coffey said investigators spent Monday on Douglas Lake with the assistance of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, searching for further evidence that may be related to "the recovery of the homicide victim." “This investigation is still in it's preliminary stages and we will release further information as it becomes available,“ the sheriff said.
