Vandaley charged in dog attack
A Cocke County man has been charged with allowing his dog to run at large after it attacked a neighbor's dog. Jessica Hempy, Overlook Way, Newport, told Deputy Sgt. Heath Willis that she was walking her dog when a pit bull dog owned by Keith Vandaley, Jr. attacked her chihuahua. Two men, Andrew Hempy and Randy Gaskill were injured when they intervened to protect the smaller dog. Sgt. Willis said both men required medical treatment for bite wounds to their hands. In addition, the chihuahua required medical treatment as well. Vandaley told investigators he was at work at the time of the incident, but his daughter was in the home when his dog got out of the residence.
