North Highway 321 crash injures two Several persons were injured Monday afternoon in a dump truck and two cars collision on North Highway 321 in Cocke County. The 12:47 pm collision occurred just north of the Highway 160 intersection and closed the roadway for three hours. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Kevin Carson, 42, Dandridge and George E. Reece, 58, Newport were northbound when Reece operating a 2003 Honda stopped in the roadway to make a left turn. Carson operating a 2005 Pontiac failed to stop and struck the Reece auto in the rear. Reece was shoved into the southbound lane where Billy Hurst, 52, Sevierville was operating his 2013 Kenworth dump truck loaded with sand. Hurst swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision but his truck overturned onto the Reece auto, according to the highway patrol. Personnel with the Newport Rescue Squad and Cocke County firefighters had to free Reece who was entrapped in his vehicle. He was flown from the scene to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, and today is listed in stable condition. Carson was taken by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center for treatment, however Hurst was not injured. Charges are pending against Carson. The highway patrol says all three drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
