New Cave Church Road collision
Both drivers were injured in a Tuesday head-on collision on New Cave Church Road in Newport. The 11:44 am crash occurred near the intersection with Duckett Road. Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the drivers as; Joshua Dean Barnes, 36, of Newport, operating a Mazda 3, and Marion Collier, 66, Newport, who was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer. Officers said Barnes was westbound, and crossed over the center line colliding with the Collier auto which was eastbound. Barnes sustained a fractured leg and was transported by First Call EMS to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Collier and a passenger, Joe Collier, also 66 of Newport, both were taken by First Call to the Newport Medical Center for treatment of minor cuts and bruising. Barnes who was not wearing his seat belt is charged with driving left of center, failure to exercise due care and a seat belt violation.
