Owenby arrest
A Cocke County man faces numerous charges after a Monday incident in which he crashed his pickup into a Cocke County sheriff's cruiser. Newport Sgt. Matthew Elliott said he was trying to arrest Travis Owenby, 36, North Susong Street, Newport, on a probation violation, in the parking lot of Newport Jewelers on the Cosby Road just before 5 pm. Owenby then jumped into his pickup, revved the engine and spun his tires, and at an accelerated speed backed into the cruiser operated by Cocke County Sheriffs Deputy Jody Henry. The suspect then sped away but stopped after a quarter mile chase. He now faces the additional charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exercise due care, aggravated assault, felony fleeing to evade arrest, driving on a revoked license and no insurance.
