Power outages Curtis Williamson, Electric Department Manager, for Newport Utilities(NU), says the NU electric system experienced widespread power outages on Sunday. Heavy rain, followed by high winds resulted in fallen or leaning trees on power lines. “Our system has reached a peak outage count of over 700 customers. The largest impacted areas include the Edwina, Wilton Springs, Cosby, and Jones Cove communities," Williamson said at 3:30 pm. He added that multiple storm fronts passed through the area, throughout Sunday afternoon, and crews continued to receive reports of new outages. All of the power was restored by this morning.
