Jenkins arrest A Cocke County man has been arrested in connection with a March 28 crash. Donald Jenkins, 48, Greasy Cove Road, Cosby, surrendered to Newport Sgt,.Justin Vinson on Wednesday. Jenkins was being pursued by Cocke County Deputy Sgt, Max Laughter when he lost control on Good Hope Road, ran off an embankment and crashed into a utility pole. Jenkins then fled the scene on foot but was identified by his passenger, Lisa Shults, 40, Hooper Highway, Cosby. Shults was held at gunpoint till other officers arrived on the scene. The woman was under the influence of a depressant and had her three year-old daughter in the vehicle unrestrained. Shults said during the pursuit, she had asked Jenkins several times to stop and let her and her daughter out but he refused. Sgt. Laughter said neither Shults or her daughter were injured. Both were examined by First Call EMS personnel. The child was released to a relative and a referral to the Department of Children's Services was made. At the time, Shults was jailed on charges of public intoxication and child abuse. Jenkins now is charged with fleeing to evade by motor vehicle, two counts kidnapping, two counts reckless endangerment, child abuse and neglect, reckless driving, resisting a stop, possession of methamphetamine, driving while in possession of methamphetamine and other traffic violations.
