Wilson indictment A Cocke County Grand Jury has indicted a former Cocke County High School teacher on charges of aggravated statutory rape. Keith D. Wilson, 27, Delta Alley, Newport is charged with aggravated statutory rape involving a 17 year-old female. The teen said she met the defendant on a dating app called "Tender" and admitted that she had portrayed herself as being eighteen years old, on the dating site. Cocke County Schools Assistant Director Casey Kelley says Wilson is no longer a teacher in the system. The tenured teacher was placed on suspension without pay on December 18, 2018. "He was afforded the opportunity to appeal his suspension after the Board of Education brought charges for dismissal against him. He did not appeal those charges and so the Board dismissed him from employment effective March 26," Kelley said. The grand jury also has indicted two men in connection with a December 2018 incident in which they allegedly threatened to kill a Newport Man. Shawn Michael Ashburn, 37, Big Way, Newport and Steve Elliott Moore, 39, North Highway 321, Parrottsville, are charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. The warrants in the case allege that the defendants drove Derrick Williams to Fairview Street, and while there Moore told the victim, "if you try to run I will shoot you." At that point, the warrant says Ashburn pointed a handgun at the head of Williams. Moore allegedly told Williams," you are lucky I like you; I was going to kill you and throw you in the river down the street." Moore then allegedly forced the victim to sign the title of his auto, and then the two suspects fled in William's auto. The grand jury also indicted three defendants on chop shop charges. David Lee Ownes, 28 Virginia Street, Newport is charged with the theft of a vehicle owned by Clinton Raines in January. As a result, he is charged with theft over $2,500 and operation of a chop shop. Accomplices, Kendra Hall, 25, Dark Hollow Road, Cosby and Allen Warren, Jr., 38, Clevenger Cut-Off Road, Newport, also are charged with operating a chop shop.
