March jobless numbers
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced Thursday that 80 of the state's 95 counties recorded an unemployment rate in March that is lower than a year ago. Compared to February statistics, 69 counties experienced a slight uptick in unemployment, while rates decreased in 17 counties. “Even though many counties did see a small increase in their unemployment rates, Tennessee continues a pattern of low unemployment,” says Commissioner Jeff McCord. “Unemployment in many areas of the state mirrors or is even lower than it was last year.” Williamson County has the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.4 percent, and Clay County is the highest at 6 percent.
