Casada resigns as House Speaker
Embattled Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada said Tuesday he will resign his leadership position in the coming weeks. The move came after Governor Bill Lee said he will call a special session of the legislature if Casada does not resign. In addition, the House Republican caucus approved a no confidence resolution 45-24. Eleventh District Representative Jeremy Faison voted for the no-confidence resolution. Casada said he wants to determine the best date to resign as speaker so that he can facilitate a smooth transition. A firestorm developed after Casada exchanged lewd text messages with his former chief of staff, who admitted to using cocaine while working in the legislature's office building. Chad Cothren also faced scrutiny in media reports for sending racist text messages. Casada will remain in his House seat. Representative Bill Dunn of Knoxville will serve as temporary House Speaker.
