Casada continues to have problems
Tennessee taxpayers paid more than $57,000 to renovate and install a white noise machine in the office of House speaker Glen Casada, according to state records. No other Tennessee lawmakers have white noise machines in their offices. Records indicate the Speaker also spent nearly $7,900 of taxpayer money in three months to pay for 10 flights on a state plane. Casada, who calls himself a conservative, lost a no-confidence vote among House Republicans on Monday. An investigation by the Tennessean found Casada had exchanged sexual and racist text messages with Cade Cothren, his former chief of staff, who also admitted to using cocaine while working in the legislature's office building. Cothran who was paid $199,000 annually, recently resigned. Casada said Tuesday he would resign from his leadership position in the coming weeks. But a move is underway also by other lawmakers to remove Casada from his House seat.
