Jones pursuit
Three individuals were taken into custody on Tuesday by Newport Patrol Officer Josyua Shults following a vehicle pursuit. The officer says he began the pursuit on East Broadway, the vehicle headed east on East Highway 25/70 at speeds reaching 80 miles per hour and at times traveling in the westbound lanes "with disregard for his passengers, himself and the public." Larry Lee Jones, 25, Wileytown Road, Newport, traveled onto Pig Trot Road and then Wileytown Road where he stopped and fled on foot into a wooded area. He was captured a short time later by Patrol Officer William Garber. Both passengers in the vehicle, Cody Johnson, 25, no address given and Tessa Leonard, 20, Terrace Way, Newport, said they had asked Jones to stop and allow them to exit the auto, but he refused. Jones now faces charges kidnapping, reckless driving, three counts reckless endangerment, fleeing to evade police and several traffic violations. Leonard was jailed on a charge of theft over $1,000. Her grandfather, Joe Spence, in January reported that Leonard stole his pickup truck. Johnson also was jailed on a probation violation.
