NUconnect cyber attack
During the last week of May, Newport Utilities' NUconnect Broadband customers experienced intermittent, at times extended, service interruptions. According to Sharon R. Kyser, Marketing & Public Relations Manager, these outages originated "in one of our service delivery partner networks and cascaded to the NUconnect network." Kyser says the service interruptions were caused by a sophisticated, distributed, denial of service attack that primarily originated from multiple points outside of the United States. She says security experts were able to isolate the cause and make adjustments to prevent the network from being impacted again. The NUconnect engineering team is continuing to work closely with it's partner's engineering team to ensure network stability and minimize future service interruptions. "NU apologizes for the inconvenience our customers experienced during this service interruption," added Kyser. "We appreciate the community support and will continue to strive to deliver the highest quality service."
