Lafnear injury and charges
A Cocke County woman was seriously injured Sunday morning when she wrecked a stolen vehicle on New Cave Church Road in Newport. The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the driver of the 2003 Ford Ranger as Shannon Lafnear, 33, Newport and her passengers as an eight year old female and two year old male ,both from Cosby. The 9:20 am crash occurred as Lafnear traveling north, left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver reportedly was taken to the UT Medical Center by First Call EMS, however the children were not injured. According to the THP, the pickup had been reported stolen last Thursday from Madison County, North Carolina. Lafnear faces charges of DUI, Driving on a Suspended License, Theft of Auto, Failure to Exercise Due Care and no insurance.
