Teen runaway crashes her car during pursuit
A 15 year-old runaway female from Dandridge faces charges in connection with a Tuesday pursuit by Cocke County officers. Deputy Lt. CJ Ball said the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department had reported that a white Honda Accord had been taken from a residence on Marshall Way in Dandridge. Family members had spotted the car on the Cosby Raod in Newport and were following it. Deputies then took over the pursuit which reached speeds of 80 to 90 miles per hour. The teen attempted to elude officers with a quick turn onto Cosby Cut-Off Road, but the auto slammed into a guardrail. The girl attempted to flee on foot but was captured nearby. First Call EMS took the teen to the Newport Medical Center for evaluation, and she later was released to her parents. Although the girl's parents chose not to file charges in the car theft, Lt. Ball did file charges in Cocke County of reckless driving, resisting stop, halt and frisk, speeding, driving without a license and a seatbelt violation.
