Old Dandridge Pike closed on Friday
Old Dandridge Pike(Highway 139) in the Strawberry Plains area of Jefferson County was closed for several hours Friday after an 18 wheeler went out of control. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, in a report released on Sunday, said the crash occurred near the intersection with Westford Road. William Vargas, 60, Irving, Texas driving for Swift Truck Lines, lost control of his 2016 Freightliner when the right side wheels dropped off the roadway at 8:50 am. The rig caught the power lines and pulled a pole down, and the vehicle continued off the roadway a short distance before coming to rest. Although Vargas was not injured, he was cited for violation of the Due Care law.
