Saturday crash in Jeff County
Both truckers were injured in a Saturday afternoon crash on eastbound Interstate 40, near the 417 milemarker in Jefferson County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the 2:15 pm crash involved tractor trailers operated by Ki Kim, 60, Tenafly, New Jersey and Arash Agahi, 33, Little Elm, Texas. Troopers said witnesses reported that Kim swerved from the left lane across the middle and right lanes and went off the roadway onto the right shoulder. The truck then swerved back into the right lane where it struck the Agahi rig, which had been traveling in the right lane. After the initial impact, the Kim rig went off the right side of the roadway and up a steep embankment before striking a tree and coming to rest on its driver side. Kim was flown from the scene to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, and Agahi tas taken by Jefferson County EMS to Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Kim faces charges of Failure to exercise due care and Failure to maintain lane of travel.
