Foothills fall
Area emergency personnel responded Sunday morning to reports that a man had fallen from a pull-off lookout on the Foothills Parkway in Cocke County. Lt. Justin Shelton of the Cocke County Fire Department said the call to the second lookout from South Highway 321 came in at 2:34 am. "We sent a stokes basket down and pulled him back up," explained Shelton. Two sheriff's deputies and five firefighters went down the steep embankment and brought Austin Bohannon, 22, Hickman, Ky, up the 300 foot embankment. Lt. Shelton said the rescue operation involved the county fire department, Cosby Volunteer Fire Department, Cocke County Sheriff's Department, Newport Rescue Squad and First Call EMS. The rescue took 90 minutes, and then the injured Bohannon was transported by First Call EMS for treatment.
