GM employees on strike
The United Auto Workers union is on strike against General Motors, including those at the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant. The announcement followed a meeting Sunday morning, and Spring Hill's UAW Local 1853 posted on its website that members were to report for strike duty at midnight Sunday. Currently the GM Spring Hill plant has 2,630 hourly workers. It manufactures 250,000 Cadillac and GMC vehicles annually. Last year General Motors reported more than $8 billion in profits. The average GM employees earns $33 per hour. This is the first national UAW strike since 1982.
