I-81 crash leaves five injured, one critically
A Thursday afternoon crash on I-81 in Jefferson County sent five people to the hospital, one in critical condition. The incident in the northbound lanes occurred at 4:39 pm and involved a Chevrolet Suburban which ran into a tractor-trailer truck. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Ryan Federici,39 of New Jersey, lost control of his vehicle and struck the tractor-trailer on the right side near the White Pine exit 4. The car then ran under the trailer and then rolled. Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch line. Federici, 37-year-old Nichole Maguire, also of New Jersey, and boys aged 2, and 14, as well as a 9 year-old girl, were flown to the UT Medical Center. A hospital spokesperson says the girl is in critical condition. The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-81 till about 10 pm on Thursday. The truck driver, Goitom Habtetsion, 47, of Texas was not injured.
