Upcoming elections
The Cocke County Election Commission met this week and announced important dates for the March 3, 2020 “Super Tuesday” primary election. Josh Blanchard, Cocke County Administrator of Elections, says voters must declare whether they want the Republican or the Democratic ballot when appearing to vote or requesting an absentee ballot. This election will cover the Presidential Primary Candidates and Cocke County Primary for Assessor of Property. Candidate nominating petitions for Assessor of Property will be available beginning Tuesday, October 15. Candidate qualifying deadline will be Thursday, December 12 at Noon in the Cocke County Election Commission office. Assessor of Property will be the only position to appear in a County Primary. Both the Republican and Democratic Parties of Cocke County have called for a County Primary to determine Assessor of Property party nominees. The General Election for Assessor of Property will be held in August 2020. Those voting a Republican ballot will have the option to vote for Delegate candidates to attend the Republican National Convention in 2020. Nominating petitions for Delegate candidates are available now at the office of the Tennessee Coordinator of Elections by calling (615) 741-7956. Delegate candidate petitions are due at the state election office by Thursday, December 12 at 12 Noon. Early Voting for the March “Super Tuesday” Election will be February 12 through February 25 at the Cocke County Courthouse Annex. Early Voting hours are posted online at CockeCountyElection.org. Election Day voting hours for the March 3, 2020 Primary will be 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Voters may request Absentee By-Mail ballots beginning December 4, 2019, through February 25, 2020. The election commission reminds absentee voters that you must complete a separate absentee ballot request for each election that you want to vote Absentee By-Mail. Absentee ballot requests will be available on the election commission website and in the office beginning December 4.
