Anderson charged with assaulting paramedic
A Cocke County man who reportedly was under the influence of a narcotic recently when he demolished his home, ended up in jail after he allegedly assaulted a paramedic. Cocke County Deputy Jody Henry said he responded to the residence of Marcus Lamar Anderson, 43, on Azalea Lane in Newport, where the subject appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. Anderson agreed to a medical evaluation and so a First Call ambulance was called to the scene, but as it headed to the Newport Medical Center, the ambulance stopped. Officer Henry says he noticed activities in the ambulance, and when entering the vehicle, he found EMT Rick Rainbolt trying to control Anderson. The EMT said Anderson loosened his belt in the ambulance and then began to kick and strick the paramedic. The subject was tasered and handcuffed, and then was taken to jail. But at the jail, Anderson continued to resist and had to be placed in a restraint chair. Anderson now is charged with assault and resisting arrest.
