Jefferson County scam alert
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has issued a "scam alert" with regard to phone calls that indicate they are originating from the sheriff's office. Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey is warning residents they should not respond to requests from 865-484-4012 because callers from that number, "ARE NOT REPRESENTATIVES of the Jefferson County Sheriff"s Office." The sheriff says callers are contacting residents, alleging they have not responded for jury duty and then requesting credit card information to pay for fines because they did not report. "We are currently investigating the source of this scam and its origin," adds the sheriff.
