Jeep theft arrest
A second Cocke County man has been arrested in the July 29 theft of a Jeep in Hartford, which later was found burning. Deputy Hannah Brock originally charged Darrell Jenkins, 44, Millertown Road, Cosby in the theft of the 2007 Jeep owned by Tammie Hayes, Little River, South Carolina. The vehicle was taken from the Hartford BP on Big Creek Road, Hartford and was later found burning on Lindsey Gap Road. On Saturday, Deputy Brock arrested Thomas K. Newton, 21, Riverwalk Way, Newport, on charges of theft over $1,000 and conspiracy to commit vehicle theft. Newton also was wanted on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, failure to appear for a court hearing and a criminal summons.
