Philpot arrest
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday arrested Jeffery Lee Philpot, 53, at his residence on Wedgewood Way in Newport. Sheriff Armando Fontes said, Deputy Sgt. Chris Barnes and Narcotic officer Lt. David Robertson obtained a consent to search the residence. The search revealed $55,748 in cash, 835 including hydrocodone, oxycodone, oxymorphone, and morphine. In addition, officers confiscated a set of scales, and a ledger of alleged illegal drug activity. Officers also located several roadway signs, and other signs which are county property, along with ammunition. Philpot was on parole with the Tennessee Department of Corrections for felony drug activity at the time of the Wednesday arrest. Philpot faces four counts of possession of schedule II oxymorphone, oxycodone and morphine for resale, possession of Schedule III hydrocodone for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft. A second suspect, Christine Hawkins, 35, was also arrested at the residence for three counts violation of probation out of Cocke County Circuit and Sessions Courts.
