Greeneville officer involved shooting
At the request of 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, TBI Agents continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting Friday night in Greene County, involving deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Office. Preliminary information indicates the incident began at approximately 8:30 pm, when a deputy responded to North Broyles Street in Greeneville on a report of individuals sitting in a parked vehicle playing loud music. As the deputy approached the vehicle, another individual at that location jumped into the vehicle and it sped away. Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle twice with spike strips, and it subsequently stopped at a location along Snapps Ferry Road, where deputies surrounded the vehicle. For reasons still under investigation, the situation escalated and resulted in at least one deputy firing on the vehicle, striking and injuring the driver, Joshua Cook, 35, who was hospitalized. TBI Agents are continuing to gather relevant evidence and information, and as is it's policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents.
