Cocke County School Board The Cocke County School Board meeting earlier this week, agreed to several policy changes; to make safety drills align with changes to state law regarding the timing and number of drills conducted throughout the school year, implement a program to reduce the potential sources of lead contamination in drinking water, update to Class Size Ratios, address social networking as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act to comply with federal law, an update to the “Grading System” policy, and update the policy to comply with state law to reflect additional offenses added to the list of zero tolerance offenses. The Board also recognized Gabrielle Wilburn, a concerned parent who introduced Superintendent Dennis Trulexer of Quitman County Schools, Arkansas regarding School Safety Shelters. Mr. Trulexer educated the Board on The Hide Away Shelter safe room benefits and cost. Members also approved the purchase of equipment for the CTE Center from the sole bidder, Kentech Machinery, Inc., at a total cost of $70,210. The board also approved a request from the Transportation Department to advertise for bids on four new school buses, one 27 passenger and three 78 passenger, to be purchased in the current school year.
