Search for Swafford continues
Hamblen Couty authorities at last report were searching for a Point Pleasant Road, Newport man who did not show up for his court hearing on Thursday. William Madison Swafford, 41, allegedly raped a 27-year-old Hamblen County woman and faces charges of aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping. Hamblen County authorities say the victim sustained severe bruising in the assault, but she got away from her attacker and jumped into the Nolichucky River on November 2 to escape. Swafford was free on a $350,000 bond when he failed to appear for his arraignment.
