Cocke County dog bite
A dog is being held at the Friends Animal Shelter in Newport after it bit an eight-year-old boy on the face on Saturday. Cocke County Deputy Sgt. Chris Barnes said the boy, Caleb Hoskins, was playing in a field with friends, off Mountain Valley way in the Cosby community at the time of the incident. The boy sustained lacerations and swelling to his left eye but his father, Robert Hoskins declined an ambulance to transport the boy for medical treatment. Witnesses said the pitbull/boxer mix had been aggressive in the past, attacking another dog at the residence. The dog has been surrendered to the shelter by the owner, William Hall, and will be quarantined for ten days because it had not been vaccinated according to Sgt. Barnes. Hall also has been provided with an official notice of "dogs running at large."
