|Cocke Jail arrests|
Two women face charges following separate incidents at the Cocke County jail on Thanksgiving Day. Brandy Mantooth, 29, Seventh Street, Newport was observed walking away from bushes near the windows of the courthouse jail by Deputy Dylan Norton. Soon thereafter Deputy Lt. David Moriarity found a brown wallet, with $100 as well as a package sealed with tape. At that point, Mantooth admitted she had tried to introduce the items into cell #7 of the third-floor jail. The sealed package was found to contain tobacco, Quetiapine, Clonazepam, Xanax, Alprazolam, Diazepam and Oxycodone pills. Now Mantooth is charged with the seven drug offenses, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy and criminal attempt. Cassandra Nicole Wynn, 23, Merry Way, Parrottsville, also was arrested by Deputy Daniel Smith. She was found running from the annex jail, and officers then discovered that the gate that accesses the jail outer windows, had been damaged. Wynn told investigators she had been contacted by an inmate and asked to come to the jail and take down the exterior gate. Officers found tools that had been used to cut the gate. Inmate Travis Bunch had allegedly contacted Wynn, asking her to remove the gate. Deputy Smith says the gate sustained $2,000 in damage and now Wynn is charged with vandalism over $500, criminal conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and criminal trespass.
