Nichols Jeep recovery
A Jeep reported stolen from the gas pumps of Murphy at the Newport Walmart on Tuesday, has been recovered. Cocke County Deputy Zach Shelton said he went to the Clifford Fine home on Lower English Creek Raod, Newport on Wednesday to serve a warrant on Fine for failure to appear for a court hearing. Officers observed the stolen flat black 2004 Jeep Liberty in the garage of the Fine property. McKeal Nichols, Lethco Lane, Newport, told Newport Patrol Officer Shane Bower that he stopped at Murphy for tobacco, and while he made the purchase, his Jeep was driven away. Newport police have charged the 27 year-old Fine with auto theft in the case.
