I-40 Challenge results
Tennessee law enforcement officials have announced the results of the annual "I-40 Challenge” traffic safety initiative along the I-40 corridor over the Thanksgiving holiday. In Tennessee, I-40 enforcement increased on the busiest travel days during the Thanksgiving holiday, with troopers stationed every 20 miles on Interstate 40. The THP reports two fatal crashes this year compared to none last year. One of the fatalities was unrestrained. This year there were 7 alcohol-related crashes compared to 5 last year. There were 179 total crashes on I-40 in Tennessee over the holiday period this year, 31 more than last year. There were 16 drug seizures this year compared to just 4 last year. This year there were 26 DUI arrests compared to just 12 last year. But more people are wearing their seatbelts. ...118 citations this year compared to 277 last year. I-40 runs through Tennessee for 455 miles.
